A four-block section of the Northeast Waterfront District portrayed as cartographic espalier with characteristic leaf shapes representing the spatial distribution of eight common San Francisco street trees - Blackwood Acacia, London Plane Tree, Loquat, Victorian Box, Indian Laurel Fig, Tulip Tree, Brisbane Box, and Saucer Magnolia


Tree plantings in a block long section of the urban grid determine the leaf sequence of an imaginary hybrid tree branch. Accompanied by an identification key, the branch becomes a totemic botanical survey map for observers exploring the biogeograhy of the street.
